Notes for Hawthorne Darby

Grew up in Colfax, Indiana, guided by church, home and community, an ardent enthusiast of Battleground Epworth League Institute, by which she was inspired. The Darby cottage, "Dew Drop Inn", was the center of family worship. After Hi-School she entered DePauw University and graducated in 1910. Her goal was to study medicine and became a med. missionary to the Phillippines.

Executed by the Japanese in 1944!

Hawthorne is buried in North Cemetery in Manila, Phillipines
